Now in its third year, the HRI ranks 23 of the wealthiest donors (OECD/ Development Assistance Committee members), including the U.S. The report includes analysis of the performance and policies of each donor country based on quantitative data, and on field research carried out in 13 major humanitarian crises during 2009.
Among other things, the launch will cover how well the U.S. performs in comparison to other donors, and what its individual ranking indicates about areas the Obama administration needs to focus on as it reforms US humanitarian policy.

Can Common Sense Spur a Clean Energy Revolution?

NRDC’s President Frances Beinecke Follows the Thomas Paine Path to Start an American Energy Revolution with Common Sense

WASHINGTON (Oct. 29, 2009) – As Congress debates landmark environmental legislation this fall and the United Nations climate meetings in Copenhagen unfold in December, Natural Resources Defense Council President Frances Beinecke hopes her first book will drive Americans to action and help them better understand the facts behind global climate change.

Beinecke, who has worked for NRDC for 35 years, will discuss her new book: Clean Energy Common Sense: An American Call to Action on Global Climate Change, on Nov. 10,  just days before President Barack Obama is expected to make his first trip to Asia, where global environmental issues will dominate the conversation.

“This book is a call to action, one citizen’s honest appeal,” Beinecke writes in the book’s introduction. “It is not a political treatise. It is not a partisan screed. Maybe that’s because my politics on this are simple. I believe Democrats and Republicans alike have a real chance here to lead, to look to the future and show us the way to a brighter tomorrow.”
