Press conference for the launch of ACT-AD (Accelerating Cures and Treatments – Alzheimer’s Disease), the largest coalition of third party organizations ever mobilized to spearhead recognition of Alzheimer’s as an urgent national health crisis and to accelerate the approval of Alzheimer’s treatments.

Definitive survey of Baby Boomers' attitudes on Alzheimer's shows profound concerns about declining quality of life, cost of care, and the slow response to the coming crisis will be presented.

George Mason University President Alan Merten and Other University Presidents, will discuss “The Role University Research Plays in the Future Competitiveness of the American Economy”

University presidents are embracing President Bush’s new emphasis on American competitiveness, spelled out in this year’s State of the Union address. The president is calling for additional funding to support university research, with bigger budgets for the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation and other research agencies. University presidents Alan Merten, George Mason University; Charles Steger, Virginia Tech; and David Roselle, University of Delaware will discuss groundbreaking research as well as their lobbying effort to obtain the additional resources.

ACADEMY AWARD WINNER GEORGE CLOONEY, will address the National Press Club on "HIS RECENT VISIT TO WAR-TORN DARFUR" and will release "VIDEO FOOTAGE FROM HIS TRIP TO SUDAN."

Clooney will be joined by U.S. Senators Barack Obama (D-IL) and Sam Brownback (R-KS), co-sponsors of S. 1462, The Darfur Peace and Accountability Act, and co-sponsors of amendments to increase funding for peacekeeping operations in Sudan. The Senators also co-authored a Washington Post op-ed (12/27/05) calling on the Bush Administration to take a more proactive strategy to put a stop to the atrocities in Darfur.

Clooney has been heavily engaged as an advocate for Africa over the past year. As a spokesperson for ONE: The Campaign to Make Poverty History, Clooney took part in an Emmy-nominated public service announce-ment. In 2005, he traveled to the Gleneagles G8 Summit to lobby world leaders alongside Bono and Bob Geldof. This weekend, Clooney will attend the SaveDarfur.org rally on the Capitol Mall.

Legendary radio host Bob Edwards, the former baritone voice of NPR's Morning Edition, stays up late for Cocktails with Champions on THURSDAY, APRIL 27 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Edwards, who left NPR in 2004 after 30 years and nearly 20,000 interviews, now hosts The Bob Edwards Show for Washington, DC-based XM Satellite Radio. He's also the author of two books: Fridays with Red: A Radio Friendship, based on a series of well-know interviews with retired sportscaster Red Barber, and Edward R. Murrow and the Birth of Broadcast Journalism. In November 2004, he was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame.
