The Eric Friedheim National Journalism Library, a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization, provides a broad range of programs and services to reporters, freelancers and researchers to encourage and support a global free press.
Contributions in support of the Library are fully tax-deductible. In honor of the Club's 100 years of service to the journalism community in 2008, we’ve launched the Centennial Challenge Campaign, which seeks funds for all of our programs and operations.
Library membership is open to anyone and gives access to all our research services. For example, library members can call or email our researchers for background information on any topic.
The Library has sponsored classes in various computer-based topics as writing HTML, computer-assisted reporting and more. Recent training sessions have included "Reporting From Facebook," and "How to Preserve Your Personal Papers." Classes are listed in the National Press Club's calendar. Trained Library staff is also available to come to your company or organization and provide instruction on a variety of subjects.
The Library also sponsors several annual scholarships at the undergraduate and the graduate level. The Persina Scholarship is aimed at high school graduates who will be majoring in journalism and who will contribute to diversity in the profession. This scholarship helps support four years of undergraduate work. The Feldman Scholarship is a one-year stipend for graduate work in journalism.
The National Press Club's Awards program provides cash awards in a very broad range of journalism endeavors, including awards for specific types of reporting or for specific types of news outlets.
The library produces the National Press Club's book events: Book Raps and the Annual Book and Author Night. These events bring notable authors to the club to discuss their books and answer questions from the audience. These events are open to the public and give those attending the opportunity to interact with important writers.
An important part of the Library, the National Press Club Archives collects, preserves, and makes available for research and reference use the archival materials of the National Press Club and other prominent journalism organizations, including the WNPC and the Gridiron Club. The Archives serves our membership and the general public and provides open access to extraordinary documentation of journalism history in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
